For almost two years, my oldest blog lost its PR4. I tried everything I can to bring back the page rank of my blog to its former glory but it seems everything I have done was to no avail. Until early last year that I have decided to do something out of the ordinary and then before the year ended, I was able to regain a Page Rank of 3!! Yay!!
Now I am sure the question you have in your mind, what did I do to gain back my PR? Is there a secret?
The answer is NO, there are no secrets! I just did the basics and some investments that paid off in the long run… what are these? Just read on and hope it will help you regain your page rank too!
= Page rank is all about links. To get a sensible page rank, you must have a considerable amount links pointing at you. One way links, the better!! So, how do you get one way links or links for that matter? Aside from exchanging links, I invested time, money and effort. I launched several blog contests in a year and even sponsored contests too! Yes… what is the better way to get a lot of (one way) links is from contests!! To get this, you must be willing to invest money!
= The next big thing I did with my blog was change my post permalinks, from the old permalinks I got from blogger which was /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%.html to the new permalink /%postname%/. Then I installed Google XML Sitemap and Permalink Finder plugins to inform Google about my new permalinks so that my blog will be indexed again to the new ones. (I will have another post on how to configure this.)
= And the last but not the least, I installed Broken Link Checker to unlink all dead links because I once read from another blog before that having too many dead links on your blog can hurt your page rank in some way too. And guess what? I found hundreds of them!! Hundreds that sometimes my blog hangs because of the checking procedures, as you can see, I have thousands of posts to check!!
So now that you know, why not try it for yourself and probably you might regain the page rank you lost just like what I did with my oldest blog!
NOTE: This is applicable to self-hosted WordPress blogs only.
