There was a time when everything was so big and over the years the development of technology made those things smaller and smaller yet with the capacity which is greater as the development passes by. The closest to having mobile music then was having a big stereo over one’s shoulder as he (usually) walks down the road with ears touching the speakers for listening pleasure. The small casette players were not sufficient for listening pleasure. Then the walkman came out with headsets and a player that you can put in your bag. What a relief for the shoulders! The sound was great! Then as the players got smaller like the mp3 players and now integrated with the phones, earphones are only used, but now, we’re back to headsets because of better listening pleasure.
