Christian Parenting – The Importance of Daily Prayer

Loading

As a parent you know that you are on duty twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. You are expected to be at your best at all hours of the day and night but unfortunately, this isn’t always possible. As a Christian parent you are expected to be a Christ-centred role model for your children but if you haven’t found the time to have a relationship with the Lord, you will not be an exemplary model to follow. It is of vital importance to take time out of each and every day to spend in prayer. Here are a few of the reasons why.

Power in Prayer

You have heard it said a million times that there is power in prayer. Usually people think of this in terms of asking for miracles in hopes of getting the desired response. However, as a parent it is infinitely more important to spend time in prayer because the power in prayer is strength. As a parent you are faced with new challenges each and every day and through the power of prayer you are given the strength you need to meet these challenges as they appear.

Rest in the Lord

Any doctor will tell you of the importance of getting an adequate amount of rest. Spending time in prayer, laying your burdens on His shoulders enables you to rest, assured that you are not alone. Throughout the Bible there are instances where the Lord says he will provide rest when you are heavily burdened. One thing every parent needs is time to rest and this is the perfect time and place to catch that much needed break from daily responsibilities.

Taking Time to Breathe

One of the leading stressors in 21st century life is the speed at which we are forced to live. Spending time in prayer takes you out of life in the fast lane, if only for brief respites so that you can centre and regroup. If you have an au pair, this is the perfect time to have her take over so that you can spend time in prayer undisturbed. Check out the aufini website to find an au pair that meets your requirements.

Spending Time with a Friend

We are encouraged to spend quality time with friends because it helps to know we are not alone, that there are others who share our likes and dislikes, will listen when no one else is there and to provide a shoulder to cry on if that’s what you need. The Lord is your best friend and will never forsake you. Spending time with Christ means you never need to worry about what you wear and whether you’ve done your makeup. He knows and loves you just as you are.

Being a Christian parent requires so much more of you simply because you are a person of faith. Take time to pray daily and you will be rewarded with a sense of peace unlike any you’ve known before. Teach your children the importance of prayer through your actions. As a Christian parent it is your duty to teach the faith, and what better way than through the power of prayer?

Values are caught rather than taught. It is truly important that parents model to their kids their personal relationship with the Lord. Them seeing you actually pray (or you lead them in prayer) teaches them a very important lesson, it encourages them to also pray. We cannot afford Godless children, parents need to step it up and show them how life is amazing with God in it.
