Menopause Mood-Swing Truth

Posted on August 1, 2012December 6, 2013 by MOMMY RUBY

Many women struggle with mood swings around the time that they begin experiencing other menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, anxiety, and weight gain. Why do women experience mood swings during this time? And what exactly are mood swings?

The Menopause Mood-Swing Truth

Mood swings can make you feel like you’re on an emotional roller coaster for no apparent reason. As with most other menopause symptoms, mood swings are caused by fluctuating levels of androgen, estrogen, and progesterone. The important thing to know about this menopause symptom is that these fluctuating hormones cause serotonin levels to drop. Serotonin is a mood stabilizing hormone in the brain, so when serotonin levels decrease, moodiness often increases.

Help for Mood Swings

In addition, other menopause symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia and fatigue can really begin to get on your nerves and add to your irritability. Plus, this stage of your life brings about other kinds of life changes too, like losing your parents, watching your kids go off to college and changes in your relationship. There are numerous ways to help relieve your menopause symptoms. For instance, healthy eating and getting regular exercise can help to increase serotonin levels, making your mood more stable. Kuhl Care (www.kuhlcare.com) will also help you maintain natural hormonal balances. Talking about your menopause symptoms (and other life stresses) can really help to relieve the mental and emotional pressure. Speaking to a therapist can also help to relieve anxiety and mood swings.

Why Seek Menopause Symptom Relief

Mood and sleep have an intertwined relationship: if you’re anxious, you won’t sleep well. And if you’re not sleeping well, you’re bound to be moody. And again, healthy eating habits and regular exercise will help with your sleep cycle, directly affecting your mood swings and anxiety. Moreover, these strategies can also help with hot flashes and night sweats.

If you keep a positive attitude and persevere, you’ll be able to keep your mood swings and other menopause symptoms under control.

There are probably medicines that a woman can buy to minimize or cure the symptoms of menopause.
