My friends and I went out for some bonding time the other day and we got to talk about our lives, our dreams and aspirations, as well as our plans for the future. Since most of us are work-at-home-moms, we discussed the things we wanted to achieve and do this year as far as our careers are concerned. It goes without saying that whatever it is we want for ourselves, our families are always the center of our decisions so we need to make certain that everything we do and all decisions we make will be most beneficial to our families.
One of my friends said that she would like to eventually settle in a foreign land. She said she only wants what’s best for her family and that means ensuring that her kids get the most out of their education. Of course, that doesn’t mean that the level of education here is poor. It’s just that she knows that her kids could further improve academically if they migrate somewhere. I guess she has a feeling that the challenge of a new school and new classmates would make her kids strive harder in school. I guess my friend will soon be looking for advertisements for new homes for sale cedar rapids ia or anywhere else for that matter. However, she knows that it’s something she needs to consult with her husband and the whole family.
This got me thinking whether life in a foreign land would appeal to me and to the rest of my family. Nothing is wrong with stepping out of one’s comfort zone but I think the idea of settling in a place that’s thousands of miles away from my homeland is a bit overwhelming for me. Not that I would mind living in the USA and experiencing the four seasons firsthand.
