Last August 21, 1983, Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. was assassinated upon his return to the Philippines. His death triggered the Philippine’s most historic event called “People Power” which happened three years later. The revolution resulted to the fall of the Marcos regime thus restoring the democracy in our country.
Today marks the 26th death anniversary of Ninoy Aquino. Based on the guidelines of Republic Act No. 9492, today is declared as a special (non-working) holiday to commemorate his death. But this is not only a mere holiday! It is more valuable than vacation or the 30% pay. It started what we are enjoying today, FREEDOM.
Ninoy Aquino is a symbol of hope, freedom and democracy for all Filipino people. He once said that “The Filipino Is Worth Dying For.” Indeed, he sacrificed himself so that we might find freedom today!
The essence of August 21 to the Filipino people is FREEDOM from OPPRESSORS! Let us make our effort to KEEP our FREEDOM ALIVE! Don’t allow others to grab what was sacrificed for us back then.
As they say . . .
We should continue what:
NINOY died for . . .
and what:
Cory lived for . . .
