This morning, September 28, 2025, Postcrossers gathered for the World Postcard Day 2025 Cagayan de Oro meet-up at Missy Bon Bon, Limketkai Center. We met at 10 AM to celebrate something close to our hearts—World Postcard Day, which is officially on October 1.
It was such a simple yet refreshing gathering. Imagine a table filled with colorful postcards, pens, stamps, and people excited to share their stories. Some of us swapped postcards, others showed off their collections, and of course, we all wrote cards that would soon travel across the world.
A Little Backstory on World Postcard Day
Did you know the very first postcard was sent on October 1, 1869, in Austria? That’s why World Postcard Day is celebrated every October 1. Postcrossing, the community many of us are part of, helped launch this global event back in 2020 to keep the tradition of sending postcards alive.

In a world where everything is instant and digital, postcards feel special. They take time, effort, and thought. And when one arrives in your mailbox, it feels like receiving a small gift.
Meet-up Moments
Our little group enjoyed coffee, bread, and conversations while writing postcards. Some cards featured local landmarks and Northern Mindanao scenes—our own way of promoting our region to the world. I love that about Postcrossing: every card we send is not just paper, but also a story of who we are and where we live.

We ended our meet-up with a group photo at the new “I ❤️ CDO” landmark in Limketkai Center. It was the perfect way to wrap up the morning—happy faces, colorful postcards in hand, and a shared passion for this hobby.

Why I Love Postcrossing
I’ve been part of this hobby for some time, and it never loses its magic. There’s just something about holding a handwritten postcard, knowing it traveled miles and miles to reach you. The stamps, the postmarks, the handwriting—it all feels so personal.

Through Postcrossing (www.postcrossing.com), we don’t just exchange postcards, we exchange pieces of ourselves. And as Northern Mindanao Postcrossers, it’s also a chance to show the world our culture, our cities, and our beautiful island.
An Invitation
If you’re reading this and you love postcards (or maybe you’ve been curious to start), why not join us next time? We’d love to welcome more hobbyists from around Northern Mindanao.
And on October 1, join the celebration! Send at least one postcard—maybe of CDO’s landmarks, Bukidnon’s mountains, or Mindanao’s waterfalls. You never know, that small card might just brighten someone’s day on the other side of the world.
Because postcards aren’t just ink and paper. They’re connection, joy, and a reminder that sometimes the slowest messages are the ones that last the longest.
I miss you, Momi Ruby, and others who joined the Postcrossing Meet-UP in Cagayan de Oro City. I wish I was there, but I am now back in New York. It looked like you all had fun as always. I wish I had a picture of that “I Love CDO”, maybe next time. I liked all the photos. I am so excited for “World Postcard Day” as well.
Sending all my regards,
Momi Jess
This looks so much fun! I miss attending postcrossing events like this. Hopefully, I can attend one soon. Will also try to mail some cards in time for World Postcard Day!
Happy postcrossing!
