As most of you have already known, I am a single mom of three kids – two are already in college and the youngest is an incoming junior high school student. I find managing our finances very daunting. Juggling the responsibilities of raising three kids and making ends meet is challenging. Despite that, I try to increase my financial literacy as I try to improve our financial situation. This is where I find BDO helpful! BDO, one of the largest and leading banks in the Philippines, has maximized technology and innovation to promote financial literacy for Filipinos and has been a game-changer for me.
Technology: Mobile Banking App
One of the ways BDO promotes financial literacy through technology is through its mobile banking app which is truly innovative. I clearly remembered the time when mobile banking was done without using any apps. They were text-based prompts. I was not a client of BDO at that time. But when the current mobile banking app started, I was already a client. As a single mom, I value convenience, and the mobile banking app has been a lifesaver.
BDO expanded its services by adapting mobile banking technology to reach more Filipinos. As technology improves and more Filipinos have smartphones, BDO has improved its mobile apps that allow customers to access banking services from their mobile devices in a user-friendly manner. With the app, you can access your account information, perform transactions, and manage your finances from anywhere, at any time. Personally, it allowed me to manage my finances more efficiently. I can transfer funds, pay bills, and manage investments with ease, all from the comfort of my home (or on the go). The app provides a breakdown of my spending, which greatly helped me track my expenses and identify areas where I can cut back. With this, clients can access banking services whenever they want, wherever they are, including in distant places where BDO might not have physical branches.
BDO’s mobile banking app is available both on Google Play Store and iOS App Store.
Aside from BDO’s mobile app, there’s also BDO Pay. I have written the top three things BDO Pay helps me with. You can read it here.
Technology: Online Banking
One of my favorites of BDO’s innovations is online banking. If I am at home and wanted a bigger view of things, I do online banking. Maybe because of my eyesight, I like BDO’s online banking features the most. I like to see things on a bigger screen. BDO moved to great lengths to make online banking easier and more secure for their clients. Online banking allows their clients to check account balances, view transaction histories, transfer funds, and pay bills, among other things. Customers of BDO can conveniently manage their accounts from the convenience of their offices or homes through online banking. When I was still renting, online banking was of great help. I can easily transfer my rent to my landlord’s BDO account.
Technology: Online Trading Platform
BDO’s online trading platform (BDO Securities) is another way they promote financial literacy. As a single mom, investing in financial products can be daunting, but the online trading platform has made it easier for me. I am still learning, but discovering this has been very helpful. BDO Securities provides all the necessary information that can help you make informed investment decisions. What is nice is that it is user-friendly, making it accessible to everyone. Here, you can invest in a wide range of financial products, such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.

Technology: Online Account Opening
Making use of technology to make life simpler for Filipinos is truly admirable. Opening a BDO account has never been easier as future clients can now easily do it online. They don’t need to visit a physical bank. They can just utilize their laptops or mobile devices. Filipinos who have busy schedules or live in distant places from a physical branch will find this extremely helpful.

Innovativeness: Seminars and Workshops
I have been a BDO Kabayan account holder. Though I am not currently working as an OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker), I am well aware of the many efforts BDO has done for our Kababayans. Through its continued partnership with OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration), BDO has provided valuable lessons on how to handle money efficiently and wisely. These include a wide range of topics, such as budgeting, debt management, and investing. The workshops are led by experts in the field who provide practical advice and tips to help participants manage their finances more effectively.
The best part is that the seminars and workshops are free, making them accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. And, this is not for OFWs only, they have seminars and workshops that are open to all!

Innovativeness: Financial Literacy Programs for Schools
As a private school teacher, I have heard of BDO’s financial literacy programs for schools back in 2019. I was not able to attend one as they were in partnership with DepEd, but I have heard a lot of positive feedback. Most have shared that it has been instrumental in promoting financial literacy among young people. As a single mom, I want my kids to learn about financial responsibility and money management. I didn’t grow up with sufficient financial knowledge, thus, BDO’s innovativeness on this matter is amazing. Teaching students about financial management, BDO is helping build a generation of financially responsible adults who will be better equipped to manage their finances in the future.
We Find Ways
BDO has stayed true to its slogan’s essence – We Find Ways. They have been finding ways to alleviate their service through the changing times and continually advocate and promote financial literacy through technology and innovation, and as a single mom, I’m grateful for their efforts. The mobile banking app, online banking, online trading platform, online account opening, financial literacy seminars and workshops, and financial literacy programs for schools have all been instrumental in helping many Filipinos, including me, in managing finances more effectively. These are just a few of the many ways BDO promotes financial literacy. BDO’s commitment to promoting financial literacy has empowered Filipinos to make informed financial decisions, which has helped build a solid financial foundation for ourselves and our families. I would highly recommend BDO to anyone looking for a bank that values financial literacy through technology and innovation. Visit www.bdo.com.ph today!
